FAQ

What are AV wall plates and inserts?

Some of the most popular electrical supplies used for industrial and home applications include:

  • Outlets and switches, which let you power your appliances and light your home.
  • Wires and cables, drawn metal that uses an electrical circuit to carry electricity.
  • Power extenders/ extension cords that enable you to fit multiple plugs into a single outlet and extend its reach.
  • Circuit breakers, designed to protect electrical circuits from the damaging effects of short cuts or overcurrents.
  • Electrical conduit, a tube that can be used to protect or route electrical wiring.
  • Electrical fuses, which provides protection against overcurrents.
  • AC/DC power supplies, a device that receives electricity from a grid-based power supply and then converts that electricity into the necessary voltage required to power a load.

How do I install an AV wall plate?

Installing an AV wall plate is generally a straightforward process, although it may differ depending on the type of wall plate used:

  1. Determine the ideal location for your wall plate to be installed. Mark out the spot so that it is aligned with the cables you plan to connect, ensuring you consider the length of the cables.
  2. Then, carefully cut a hole in the wall that adheres to the dimensions of the wall plate, either using a drywall saw or other appropriate tools.
  3. Once you have created the opening in your wall, you can run through the hole the necessary cables.
  4. Securely attach the wall plate to the wall, either using strong screws or mounting mechanisms that are provided with the plate.
  5. You are then able to connect the cables to the appropriate ports on the back of the wall plate, making sure it’s a snug fit.
  6. Ensure that the cables are secure and organised in an efficient manner to maintain a tidy installation.
  7. (Optional) You can attach a cover plate to the front of the wall plate to create a more polished look that will aesthetically match your space.

Can I use AV wall plates with existing cables?

If you have expensive electrical devices that you are conscious of protecting, then a surge protected power board is a worthy investment.

Power points can experience power surges. Power surges can damage or even destroy any electrical device connected to the power point. A surge protected power board, meanwhile, ensures that only safe levels of electricity are able to pass through to your connected electronics. They are available as both boards and single-outlet protectors.

Do AV wall plates support high-definition video and audio signals?

Yes, they do. Many AV wall plates and inserts are designed to support high-definition video and audio signals, which means they are a great option for modern audio-visual setups, whether that be an office space or a home movie room.

For video signals, popular formats including HDMI and DisplayPort are fully supported to ensure crisp and quality definition visuals, whether used for a projector or advanced gaming console. Similarly, for audio signals, AV wall plates accommodate formats including stereo, surround sound and digital audio.

Are AV wall plates compatible with both analog and digital signals?

Yes, AV wall plate inserts are designed to accommodate both analog and digital signals, although it does depend on the ports and connectors available. They are compatible with analog signals including VGA or RCA, as well as digital signals such as HDMI DisplayPort. By selecting the right AV wall plate with the necessary analog or digital ports, you are able to seamlessly integrate a wide range of devices to your audio-visual system, despite their signal type.
