Cable Covers & Ducts - 4Cabling

Cable Covers and Ducts

If your cables are out of control, you have a messy spaghetti server room, or there is a bundle of cords under your workstation, our cable management accessories are designed to help you get them under control. Loose, unmanaged cables on the floor, especially in poorly lit, high-traffic, or tight rooms pose safety risks. This is also the case for cables that hang from the ceiling, or coil and stretch across the floor.

You can limit these hazards and organise your cables and wires better as a whole with products from 4Cabling. You can view 4Cabling’s full range of floor cable covers, cable ducts, slotted cable ducts, floor cabling trunking and other accessories, and find a solution that will work best in your space. What’s more, 4Cabling also stocks cable cover accessories such as cover plates and management rails.

You can browse our extensive range of products online. If you have questions or concerns, you can visit our contact us page and one of our customer service team members will be in touch.

FAQ Section

What is the cable duct?

A cable duct, also known as a cable tray or cable conduit, is framework that encloses electrical cables and wires within, to protect them from the weather and other external factors that would otherwise do damage. They are designed to be durable and impact-resistant, typically made of steel, alunimium or plastic.  Using a cable duct allows the cables and wires to be contained in a neat and organised way, especially in dense locations that involve many cables to multiple locations and could cause hazards. Slotted cable ducts, for instance, are a type of cable duct that has openings along the length of the tray to assist with the addition or removal of cords and wires. This design means that cables can be added and removed with ease, and is beneficial for situations where changes to the cable layout occur often, or will occur in the future

What are wire ducts used for?

A wire duct is a rigid tray that encloses and protects electrical cables and wires. It has features that allows individual cables and wires to be removed or added easily within its enclosure.

Wire ducts and cable ducts are generally interchangeable terms, but differ based on the size and scale of a project, and the type of cables/wires used. Wire ducts are typically used for small to medium cable management, in comparison to cable ducts which are mainly used on larger scale projects.

Wire ducts can be used to protect and organise cables and wires in many locations including:

  • Residential buildings
  • Commercial space
  • Industrial plants
  • On ships and aircrafts
  • Other infrastructure projects including airports, data centres etc.

What is Floor trunking?

Floor trunking, otherwise known as floor raceway or floor cable trunking, is a floor management system that organises and hides electrical cables and wires safely and securely within the floor.

As floor trunking can be installed in high traffic areas, the materials used are quite durable, such as PVC, aluminium or steel.

Floor cable trunking is mainly used in commercial or industrial buildings in instances where:

  • There are a large number of cables and wires running through an open space, to will avoid damage to the wires and safety hazards for occupants
  • Hiding the cables and wires from sight to maintain a neat and professional space

What is the difference between ducting and trunking?

Ducting and trunking are both forms of cable management systems that aims to enclose and protect cables for safety and organisational purposes. However they have distinct differences such as how accessible they are to add/remove cables and wires, and what type of projects they are typically used for.

Ducting is a cable management system that is generally buried underground, or is built into walls or ceilings. This makes it more challenging to remove, add or change cables and wires. Moreover, cable ducting is typically used in construction projects such as underground infrastructures or large industrial buildings.

On the other hand, trunking is designed to be installed on surfaces such as floors, walls or ceilings. It’s primary purpose is hide and store cables and wires, but as it is not buried within surfaces like ducting is, it is more accessible to add or remove cables and wires through trunking
