Unifi Access Points: Frequently Asked Questions
What is the purpose of Ubiquiti access points?
Ubiquiti’s Unifi access points are revolutionary WiFi systems, designed to create fast and reliable internet connections on a wireless local area network (WLAN), both indoors and outdoors. Ubiquiti access points suit a wide range of uses across a variety of disciplines.
How do I add an Ubiquiti access point to my network?
There are three steps to installing a Ubiquiti access point:
Step 1: Mount your access point using the mounting plate and either the wall bracket or ceiling mount. You will need to drill 4 6mm or 8mm holes, depending on your mounting location, to attach the access point to the surface.
Step 2: Connect your cables to the access point so the device can communicate with your router or modem. Depending on the scenario, you may have to drill an 18mm hole below the mounting plate. To attach the access point, place it on the mounting plate at an angle, then twist clockwise until you hear a click.
Step 3: Set up your network using the Unifi app, available in the App Store and Play Store. Open the app, enable location services, tap ‘Set Up’ at the bottom of the screen, and follow the prompts.
Does a Ubiquiti access point need a router?
To function most effectively, your Ubiquiti access point will need to be able to connect to a router. The devices do have a Standalone mode, but some features will not be supported. To ensure the best possible experience with your Ubiquiti access point, enable it to use a nearby router.
