Shop Power Over Ethernet (PoE) Switches by 4Cabling

Simplify your installations, reduce cable clutter, and enhance flexibility in deploying devices with PoE switches in your networking setup.

Power over Ethernet (PoE), is a technology that allows both data and electrical power to be transmitted over a single Ethernet cable. When you use a PoE switch, you’re essentially removing the need for separate power sources; enabling devices like cameras, access points, and everyday appliances to receive power and data through a unified network connection.

At 4Cabling, we stock a number of brands including TP-Link PoE, unifi PoE switches by Ubiquiti and a variety of others. We also stock 4-8 port PoE switches, 16 port PoE switches, and 24 port poe switches all the way up to 52 port PoE switches. We also have both SFP and non SFP PoE switches for your individual usage.

If you have a question about which product would work best for your current configuration, get in touch. Fill out a contact us form on and one of our team members will reach out shortly to help.

FAQ

What is a PoE switch for?

When you add a PoE switch to a network configuration, you are allowing both data and electrical power to be transferred between devices. This not only enhances the efficiency of the network, but it is a cost-effective setup option.

For example, they are great for wireless access points, especially in large spaces, as they can facilitate seamless connectivity by providing power without the constraints of power outlets. They are also effective to power and connect digital displays in retail or corporate environments, reducing the complexity of cable management and allowing for easy relocation and expansion of the signage installations.

What is the difference between a PoE switch and a normal switch?

In short, normal switches or a non-PoE switch don’t support power over Ethernet. Generally, they have lower power consumption, are of a simpler design and are a practical choice if your device doesn’t require PoE. However, non-PoE switches are solely focussed on handling data transmission, which essentially leaves your devices powerless. When you integrate a PoE switch in your connection, it provides both data connectivity and a power over Ethernet switch. PoE switches also allow for scalability, reduce cable clutter and can be strategically placed without the constraint of a power source.

Does a PoE switch need a power supply?

PoE technology receives power from the PSE it is connected to, and extracts its voltage from the power supply to operate itself. However, the PoE then uses its remaining voltage as a power source for other devices, eliminating the need for a separate power cable.

What are the benefits of a PoE Switch?

There are several key benefits to using a PoE switch when used with PoE compatible devices in your setup including:

  • Simplified Installation: PoE switches make the setup process easier, as it removes the need for managing and connecting devices to power outlets, especially in large spaces where this would be a limitation.
  • Enhanced Flexibility: With PoE products, you can deploy devices where power outlets are scarce or impractical, providing unmatched flexibility. It also allows for scalability of your networking products, as it continues to grow and become more complex over time.
  • Reduced Cable Clutter: Using a PoE switch reduces cable clutter by eliminating the need for separate power cables. This creates both a cleaner and more organised appearance but also simplifies cable management, especially in the case of having to troubleshoot issues.
